Austin began his teaching career while in his senior year of high school helping his district drumline in their inaugural year. He has since gone on to teach at numerous high schools around the valley, winning multiple high percussion awards over the years.

Austin started taking drum lessons from his long time teacher, Brett Frederickson, at 10 years old and was playing gigs around the valley by 15 years old with his jazz combo. He has most recently studied with Matt Garstka along with many other influential drummers of today. 

Austin has extensive experience in Marching percussion. He has performed with the Arizona State University Marching Band, Vision Indoor Percussion and Breakthrough Indoor Percussion. He also toured with Gold Drum and Bugle Corps (DCI). In 2024 he was brought on as a percussion instructor with world-class group Breakthrough Indoor Percussion.

From beginners to advanced players on drum kit and marching percussion, Austin is confident that he can help you unlock the next level and become more fluent in the language of drumming. We are thrilled to have Austin as a guitar and drum teacher in Scottsdale. He’s been with Kirk’s Studio for the Performing Arts and Arizona School of Music since 2021.
